As a student within the Interdisciplinary Studies Program at Arizona State
University, I am able to concentrate on two of my favorite fields, Mass Communication and Creative Writing. The Interdisciplinary
program was the best path for me, because it allowed me to fully integrate my passion for writing with my passion to get involved
with the Journalism industry. The program not only educates students on how to think critically and solve problems using their
areas of concentration, but it also pushes students to explore various concepts and theories and learn how to apply them in
the real world as they fit with each individual's area of expertise.
Concentration 1: Mass Communication
Mass Communication, put simply, is communication on a larger scale delivered
through one or many different types of mass media. A continuously growing field, mass communication offers a wide range of
career options from newspapers and television to public relations and international relations.
Concentration 2: Creative Writing
Creative Writing involves the study of a variety of genres including fiction
and poetry. Creative Writing also involves the practice of critical reading and writing, literary analysis, and self expression
through the written word. Careers that stem from this field of study include positins within the journalism industry, publishing
industry, advertising industry, and film industry.
